Boxy Jersey: Why the shirt is taking over the streets

There are articles of clothing that take decades to leave the sports field. And then there are summers like this one, where it suddenly hangs everywhere: the jersey. Not as a fan shirt, not ironically – but as a full-fledged streetwear piece. Anyone currently walking through Munich, Berlin, or across a festival ground will see them on every corner: boxy jerseys over wide pants, mesh in the sunlight, numbers on backs that no club has ever assigned.

Why boxy, of all things?

The cut is the real star. Almost everything is currently cut boxy – wider shoulders, a straight, rather shorter hem, no tailored fit. For sports: Of course, that's what it was built for. Moisture-wicking, movement-friendly – a piece that can do both is ultimately a more sustainable decision than two that can only do one each.
